Terrence has been involved with the world of Landscape for more than forty years, starting with his hands firmly in the soil, working for the Parks and Recreation Department (now the National Parks Board), learning the skills of horticulture and landscape maintenance through hands-on activities in the field, as well as the techniques of tree pruning, tree removal and transplanting, having personally supervised tree management contractors in both the central and northern parts of the island for a period of almost five years.
Five years later, he went on to work in a Landscape Design and Build company for several years, during which time he pursued his interest in landscape and horticulture by taking a part time diploma course in Ornamental Horticulture at the Botanic Gardens for a period of 2 years. During his time at UDMC, he was involved in project managing and supervising the landscapes for high profile projects such as Raffles City and AXA Tower (previously the Treasury Building), numerous residential, as well as commercial and industrial developments. This work is the foundation of his practical experience, and Terrence put this to good use, eight years later joining the international Landscape Consultancy practice, BCP Far East (later Aspinwall Clouston).
This grounding has made Terrence one of the most experienced practitioners in the market with extraordinary capability in project management and design solutions. In 1999, Terrence and his business partner, Henry Steed, co-founded Studio Steed Pte Ltd, which after four years expanded to becoming the new and larger ICN Design International working on projects in Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Dubai, India, China.
The Company, under Terrence’s capable management, his technical expertise and experience, has grown considerably over the years and built a reputation in the market of sustainable landscapes and award-winning design.
Apart from his love for challenges, Terrence continues to be a “problem solver” and respected professional in the Singapore Institute of Landscape Architects, having become recognised as one of the key players in a constantly evolving industry, bringing his wealth of knowledge and experience to raising of standards and practice in Singapore and the region.
